Parallel
Desire

by Deidre Knight
Passionate paranormal romance
amidst Armageddon: what
defines identity?
Diedre
Knight’s Parallel Desire, the fourth book of the Midnight
Warriors Series,
takes the war and the characters to the brink of Armageddon. Both
within the outer political world and the internal world of love, the
dangers are great, the passions intense, and betrayal lurking. Parallel
Desire follows the third book, Parallel Seduction, and
should be read within the context of that book and the whole series for
its maximum reading pleasure.
Scott Dillon, reeling from his actions at the end of the third book,
now finds himself in a parallel world of the past, not with his wife
but with Refarian medic Shelby Tyler. Living in Jacob Tierny’s body yet
hunting down the real Jacob Tierny in this past world, Scott Dillon is
a stranger living in the wrong body, the wrong time and the wrong
dimension. With a happy ending to his romance blown to pieces, he still
has memories of his other life. How can he hope for love when grief and
a passion for vengeance overwhelm his very soul? Obsessed with the
desire to hunt down the man who killed his wife, Scott risks breaking
the rules of the parallel dimension design to achieve his goal --- even
if it means destroying the very fabric of the universe. Can Shelby’s
body and comfort heal his very soul? She cannot deny the passion that
draws her to this tortured Antousian, but can she accept his past ----
and indeed her own ---- so that love can transform them both?
While Shelby and Scott wrestle for the very survival of their souls,
the war between the Antousians and the Refarians rages at its most
deadly. The Antousians infiltrate the very power echelons of American
government in a bid for their survival. As Kelsey prepares for the
birth of her child and Jared’s heir, her own physical safety is at
risk, not only from the Antousians but also in the very nature of her
child, a dual being fetus in her human body.
In Parallel Desire, Deidre Knight reaches into the very
heart of her universe and of love itself. In this dimension, the true
nature of the characters emerges as they wage war to protect
civilization from forces attempting to co-opt it for nefarious
purposes. Even more, the characters battle passionately for love as
their true natures are revealed in the most elemental forms --- both
raw physicality and pure energy.
Deidre Knight’s Parallel Desire examines the theme of
identity. What makes up a person’s identity? Is it the different body
that makes the Refarians and Antousians alien? Is it a name that
defines a person? What happens when another’s body is infiltrated by
another human being? What happens to Kelsey when her body nurtures
another not completely human being within? Do the mitres change her
identity? Does blood line or duty define a person? Do the special
powers define a being? When a dual nature creature is forced to into a
mono-nature, does it destroy the very soul? When a man is forced to
live within the body of a villain, can he lose his soul? When the very
souls of characters are stolen, what happens to their identity? Is a
lost soul retrievable?
In the last book of the Midnight Warrior paranormal
romance series, Deidre Knight is absolutely brilliant. She takes the
reader into a microcosm within Armageddon, focusing on the specific
internal battles and hot passion within two characters. At the same
time, Deidre Knight takes the reader out to the larger universe and
larger questions of identity, giving us a prism with which to view the
entire series in a new light, yet one carefully built in the previous
three books. A magnificent book and series!

Parallel
Seduction

The war rages outside and within: Third book
reaches new heights!
How
does Deidre Knight
do it? The first Parallel book was exceptional
and each installment gets better and better! Parallel Seduction has
more action as the war deepens and affects the characters, more
suspense as the parallel worlds touch each other, and much more
romance.
When Hope Harper, an FBI linguist, is called in to translate the
Refarian language, her duties bring her into contact with two men,
Scott Dillion and Jake Tierny, an unknown factor who sets off alarms
for all sides of the raging battle. Nearly blind from diabetes yet
feisty and skilled, Hope uses her language skills and dreams to see
beyond her the physical immediate reality. As Hope battles for her life
and tries to choose between the two men, Deidre Knight delights readers
by developing the stories of other characters. The exiled Refarian king
Jared Bennett and Kelsey Wells battle Antousians and their infertility.
Details of parallel worlds are given to shed more light on the past
betrayal by Thea Haven and Marco McKinley. Although their story is not
as prominent, the scenes and their context are crucial to understanding
the betrayal and the entire parallel world effect. The history of the
Refarian and Antousian animosity emerges in this installment, drawing
the reader deeper and deeper to her finely created alien world.
While the war rages outside, Knight also shows the war inside of
the dual creature. This installment delves deeper into the cruelty of
war and the power of love. Knight's imaginative writing allows the
reader to understand evil at its heart. The details of the love
experienced by Hope in the heat of battle reaches a new height in the
Parallel series. Readers will remember the exquisitely written
encounter between Hope and the evil Antousian Veckus for many years.
Stunning!
Deidre Knight tackles the issue of gene therapy. Knight's context
differs from current political debates enough to reach the heart of
both sides of several issues and the reader's heart. Her questions are
both more philosophical and practical. The author views both sides and
allows the reader to contemplate both without a simplistic resolution.
Deidre Knight combines all the strengths of the paranormal romance and
science fiction genres and creates a masterpiece!

Parallel
Heat

Second Parallel installment raises the heat
and reader's delight
As the second book in
the Parallel or Midnight Warrior Series, Parallel
Heat takes all the elements
that endeared readers to the first
book and
added more suspense and more romance. As a cross between romance and
science fiction, this paranormal romance will delight an audience
beyond either separate genre.
Thea Haven, cousin
to the exiled king Jared Bennett, has been
devastated by his choice of queen in the human Kelsey Wells. After all,
since she was a young child, she was raised to take her role as Jared's
wife. When Thea encounters Marco McKinley who challenges her earlier
presumed destiny. Both feel an attraction they can barely control. As a
Madjin, a sworn protector of the royal family, Marco feels duty
requires him to uphold his sworn oaths and loyalty, especially when in
a past and parallel universe, he betrayed all. Can he change the past
and protect the Refarian race and the planet Earth they protect?
Unfortunately, the humans at Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming cannot
tell the difference between the Refarians and the Antousians. To them,
an alien is an alien. In trying to remedy one past betrayal, have
deeper complications been initiated and how will this parallel world
affect the fate of Earth which stands on the brink of destruction?
Whereas the first
Midnight Warrior novel Parallel Attraction
focused on the romance between Jared and Kelsey, Parallel Heat steps up
the level of suspense and action without sacrificing the complex
romance between Thea and Marco. Readers will find the continuing
relationship between Jared and Kelsey integrated into the main thread
instead of shoved off to the side or as only minor details as in so
many other trilogies or series. When I read the first book, I wondered
how any other book could possibly surpass the intensity and beauty of
the first --- this book matches the first and also adds more suspense
through the developing ominous betrayal on the horizon!
The plot is
intricate and yet it is the complexity that delights
the reader. The possibility of parallel times and universes provokes
the imagination, especially in Deidre Knight's presentation of the
concept. The primary characters are seen through a variety of
perspectives. The stories of the secondary characters are developed
with depth and heighten the ever-increasing suspense. The romance has
elements of tragedy looming on the edges, but as romance discovered in
the midst of a great war, it has an immediacy and depth that caused me
to gasp at its beauty and danger.
If you loved the
first book, Parallel
Attraction and are
considering the purchase of this book, I would recommend buying this
and Parallel
Seduction at the
same time. The ending of the second book
is so riveting that you won't want to wait for delivery of the third in
the series.

Parallel
Attraction
Exquisite
debut
paranormal romance
Parallel
Attraction captures all the great themes of battle, love and
betrayal, the possible extinction of a great race with original,
intriguing variations. The Wyoming setting suffused with alien worlds
and technology entice the imagination. Knight creates a wild, hot
passion that far surpasses earthly romance in its pure energy. Her
writing style itself romances the reader by slowly and seductively
adding pleasure upon pleasure. Just when the reader thinks they have
reached the height of reading pleasure, she gives more... humor, a
perfect unexpected twist that opens the heart and imagination, a unique
shift. Although alien, the great Refarian king recalls to the reader
the literary legends of great earthly kings but Deidre Nights adds a
new perspective and new twists to delight. A stunning debut novel! An
exquisite paranormal romance! The very language and imagery intoxicate
with a sense of beauty.
Additional notes :
This novel reached
me down to the deepest part of
my imagination. Unforgettable! A person could read this novel and teach
it alongside other Arthurian works every year and never tire of it.
We all know what a
good book is. It captivates a
reader. Pages flip and the reader races to the ending because the book
is just that good. Once in a rare while, the reader encounters a truly
great book and it's different. The reader slows down, pausing over each
page, exclaiming "Oh my!" and reads even more slowly, intoxicated by
the very language and imagery. Even though I am an avid reader, this
has only happened a couple times for me. Marcel Proust comes to mind.
Deidre Knight's novel is one of those books for me. It took me forever
to finish this book --- I loved it that much!
Technically, the
Parallel Series is not an
Arthurian romance but it develops all the great themes and romance in
Arthurian literature. It stirs the imagination by developing all the
unsaid details. I think this book will appeal to anyone whose heart and
soul has been stirred by the King Arthur legend, from the general
enthusiast all the way to Arthurian scholars.
