The Man From Stone Creek

Man from
Stone Creek stirs up trouble and romances the whole town
The Man From Stone Creek is a
historical western romance set in 1903 in
the Arizona Territory. The main romance is filled with suspense as the
hero seeks to round up cattle rustlers and train robbers. The novel
achieves an emotional depth as the heroine's romance heals a past
tragedy. Linda Lael Miller's romance, however, is not just a
hero-heroine romance --- it is the romance of a whole town where
justice is found and the downtrodden find love.
Lawman Sam
O'Ballivan has come to town to replace the
schoolteacher. The minute he arrives, the local schoolboy fight and the
boys learn justice O'Ballivan style. The boy who teased another is
himself held by his feet with his head dangling down the well. The
disciplined boy's complaints to his mother brings him to the attention
of postmistress Maddie Chancelor. The sparks fly. When they collide,
circumstances force Maddie into the sight of the most dangerous family
in town. With Sam by her side, will she conquer the past or will his
secret mission place her in the thick of even more trouble?
Sam may be working
undercover to capture the castle rustlers and
thieves terrorizing the local area, but his efforts to blend just seem
to lead him into more trouble. Just as he realizes Maddie has his
heart, his intended bride comes in on the stagecoach. Can it get any
worse? Of course! The question is can all this danger change hearts so
that romance succeeds?
Linda Lael
Miller's magnificent romance is more than just Sam and
Maddie. The reader sees problems that plagued the American West: the
terrorists of the day, sickness, brothels which were often the only way
for a woman to survive, children left orphaned or in need, and those
left behind in the huge expansion of the West. The author does not
shrink from the unpleasant realities of the historical setting, but she
creates a romance where hearts are healed. Orphans and lost souls
(children, adults and animals) find goodness, and justice is served.
When her characters dare to opens their hearts and expose their
vulnerabilities, love is found, and the lost or neglected who surround
them get found.

McKettrick's Pride
Lost
Souls, a Pink Volkswagen bug, and a love potion!
Since the death
of his wife, Rance McKettrick has thrown himself into
his work with a passion. At least these transglobal flights and
business deals hold down the overwhelming grief even if his two
daughters suffer from his absence. Julie's mother Cora is there to pick
up the pieces... and stir things up as well with the love potion she
bought before Echo's move to Indian Rock.
When her fiance
Justin leaves her at the altar, Echo Wells packs up
and moves her bookstore and online business to Indian Rock, Arizona.
From the very beginning, the residents are drawn to her including the
mangy, wet, muddy lost dog that she names Avalon and shelters in her
newly detailed VW Bug and names Avalon. When she runs smack into a
handsome businessman who has parked his gas-guzzling SUV just a little
too close to her Pepto-Bismal pink Volkswagen bug, the sparks fly. Can
electricity turn into real love between a spooked skittish woman and a
handsome man with a heart just as wounded as hers?
The first half or
three-quarters of this book is one of the most
moving romances I have read. The reader feels the pain of the
characters as well as the electric energy between them. Even the hurt
of Rance's two little daughters and their innocent exuberance for Echo
Wells and pink Volkswagen bug grab the reader's heart throughout the
story. Other than the animal abusers, every single character enchants
the reader and creates a longing for a world like Miller's where lost
souls no longer ring out like an echo in their emptiness but instead
find their heart and family.
The ending of this romance disappoints
and suffers from being the
middle book in a terrific series. Miller tries to tie too many threads
in too short a space and without enough preparation for the minor
characters. Despite the slight stylistic imperfections, this second
book grabbed deeply and put Linda Lael Miller on my favorite author
list. A must read book!

McKettrick's
Heart
Misplaced
children, broken hearts find homes and hope
A contemporary
western romance full of sadness and joy, McKettrick's
Heart takes broken hearts and fills them with romance and
goodness.
More serious in tone than the others in the New McKettrick Men series,
this novel still captures the reader's heart and creates a world where
caring for others leads one to true happiness.
Molly Shields, a
literary agent with Pulitzer prize clients, comes
to Indian Rock, Arizona to pursue a more important client -- her son
whom she gave up for adoption to Psyche Ryan. Psyche summoned her with
promises that she would return Lucas to her, his birth-mother, as long
as Molly abides by certain conditions of the contract. When Molly
discovers that Psyche is dying of cancer, she thinks there is more to
this contract than meets the eye. Will Psyche keep her word or is this
her final revenge for having an affair with Psyche's now-deceased
husband?
Always the
ambitious corporate businessman, Keegan McKettrick has a
passion for the family business and little else. Keegan has not had
much luck with women. His wife cheated on him, divorced him, took his
money and daughter and still makes his life miserable with her devious
games. The other McKettrick men may have found love, but Keegan is a
heart-broken cynic. When he spots Psyche's maid putting Molly's baggage
in his friend Psyche's car, he cannot believe the audacity of this
disreputable woman. He decides to investigate Molly to protect Psyche
even if he is also somehow drawn to Molly at the same time he despises
her. If that was not enough, Keegan must also protect his own daughter
Devon from her mother's (his ex-wife) secrets and manipulations.
The romance in this novel focuses on
lost children, an adopted
child soon to lose his last parent and the child of an unhappy marriage
and divorced parents. As in her previous romances, I find it refreshing
to see characters who do what is good for others and in the process
discover what is good and right for their hearts. Linda Lael Miller has
a real gift for healing broken hearts in her romances. This third
romance has even more unusual and difficult situations but in creating
more depth, the reader experiences the same McKettrick pleasure of her
hero and heroine finding exactly what they need to heal the past even
if the resolution is at least in some part unexpected.
